A family study of the prevalence of antibodies to the rheumatoid arthritis associated nuclear antigen (RANA)

Background:

• Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease with a complex etiology.
• The role of genetic factors and specific autoantibodies in RA pathogenesis is under investigation.

Purpose of the Study:

• To investigate the prevalence of antibodies to the RA associated nuclear antigen (RANA) in families with RA.
• To explore the association between anti-RANA antibodies, familial clustering, and HLA-DR4 status in rheumatoid arthritis.

• Prevalence of anti-RANA antibodies was assessed in familial relatives and compared to a control group.
